Jesus vs Muhammad

ID-10051215

One thing that the Biblical character Jesus had going for him was that he isn’t exactly what you would describe as evil. Sure, there are some things he said and did that were defiantly questionable, but for the most part it was his father that you had to look out for. The Islamic prophet of Muhammad is a slightly different story, however.

“Fight everyone in the way of Allah and
kill those who disbelieve in Allah.”
Muhammad (Ibn Ishaq 992)

“Love your neighbor and pray for those who persecute you.”
Jesus (Matthew 5:44)

Early Muslims and Christians

Muhammad’s
 Companions…

Jesus’s
Disciples…

Lived as warriors. Lived like harmless hippies.
Slew and persecuted religious minorities. Were slain and persecuted
 as a religious minority.
Emphasis on Jihad (the way of Muhammad)

“He who fights that Allah’s word should
be superior fights in Allah’s cause”

(Bukhari 53:355)
Emphasis on Evangelism (the way of Jesus)

parts of 28 modern countries in just the first
three decades following Muhammad’s death.

Did not resort to violence of any sort,
despite tremendous persecution.

major world religions in just the first
100 years following Muhammad’s death.

Went centuries without declaring ‘holy war’.

Plundered and lived off the wealth of others. Gave away their possessions to those in need.
(Acts 2:44-45)
Captured and enslaved non-Muslim people. Considered themselves to be slaves of others.

Waged war to keep members from leaving
the religion.  Put apostates to death.

No record of aggression toward apostates.

Muhammad’s own family members quickly
fell into armed warfare against each other.

Jesus’ disciples never resorted to violence
against one another (or anyone else).

First 240 Years:

Islamic mosques sustained by taxes forced from subjugated non-Muslims (the jizya). Christian churches sustained
by voluntary tithes from Christians.

Islamic Teaching and Christianity

Suffering is an excuse for violent revenge

stays within their own identity group.
(Quran 48:29, 3:28, Sharia)

those who hate them are entitled to

  1. I do think that you are correct in large part. However, JC does say something more than “questionable” and pretty much the same as Mo. “I tell you that to everyone who has, more will be given, but as for the one who has nothing, even what they have will be taken away. 27 But those enemies of mine who did not want me to be king over them—bring them here and kill them in front of me.’” – Luke 19 Most if not all Christians agree that the “king” is JC.

  2. your post is misleading to say the least. To sum up it comes across as a christian apologist post attempting to quash islam and introduce christianity as the religion of peace. Before we get bogged down with your claims of what jesus did or did not do, shall we first have the more important discussion relating to the fact that this pious and gentile gentleman that you refer to as jesus cannot even be proven to any credible level to have ever lived or been born. The stories associated with him were written at best 100 years after he died and all by men who never even met the fellow. Mohammed on the other hand is historically proven to have lived and the atrocities committed by him were real. Christians love to move the discussion on to their own starting points (i.e was jesus a good man etc etc yawn). Lets start with the basics – prove he ever lived – and once you have managed that feat we can start to discuss what type of a chap he was.
In the meantime a little question for you to ponder – assuming I die right now – who is going to write what about me in 100 years that could possibly even resemble the truth?

    • I know full well the problems surrounding Jesus, and in no way am trying to make him sound perfect. But I have criticized Christianity so much over the past year that I thought I’d point out that it is relatively tame compared to some other religions.

I’m not sure if you got the idea that I was religious from this post. If so, I can assure you I am not.

      • TBH you did leave the impression that you were a christian apologist. I have a muslim background but have been an atheist ever since I could spell the word. I have no issue whatsoever with anyone blasting the heck out of islam but it does get my back up when it is done to emphasise the so called ‘better’ option of christianity or say judaism or hinduism. Every one of them is horrendous when read literally and as far as I am concerned that is the only possible definition of a religion – a literal translation of the texts. Anything else is apologetic and nothing but a cheap attempt to shine a favourable light on what are oppressive and extremely hateful belief systems. Now that I know you are an atheist I am following you and look forward to some sensible future banter. I also post my own occasional assault on religion and manage the FB page ‘And – On the First Day, Man Created god’.

  3. I think it’s great that you compared the differences between Jesus and Muhammad and it’s sad that the above commenter takes issue with that and is claiming you to “shine a favorable light” on Christianity just because you are showing that one is worse than the other. There are so many people that are saying “all religions are the same.” No, they are not. Just like there are religions that are less violent than Christianity, there are also religions that are more violent as well. To say that all religions are equal is just being dishonest. I’m glad that there are still atheists out there who are willing to compare the differences between Christianity and Islam and are not afraid to admit when one is more violent than the other, which should never be controversial to say in the first place.
