Today’s Bible verse comes from Psalm, verse 137:9
“Happy shall he be, that taketh and dasheth thy little ones against the stones”.
Obviously depending on which Bible you look at the verse might be slightly different. But basically it says that the Christian soldiers were happy about smashing the Babylonians’ babies against rocks.
When you think about it, this verse is really quite sick. Some argue that the Babylonians were ‘evil’, but why take it out on babies? The idea that the innocent children must be punished/killed as well as the adults is found throughout the Bible, from Noah’s flood to the various cities that were destroyed. Except of course, when the virgins of destroyed cities were taken and ‘kept’ by the Christian soldiers. But it’s OK to do what you want if you’re the “good guys”!
“Very rarely are battles good vs evil, and even when they are, the difficult part is figuring out which of the two evils is better” – don’t know if this has ever been said before, but it seems fitting.
